Look Ma, I did it!!!

In my eyes my mother is so talented. She always encouraged me to experience as much as I could. I learned to sew, knit, and crochet with her help. I spent far more time sewing than anything else. Growing up she sewed clothes for us and knitted or crocheted sweaters. I even had the opportunty to teach my Papa (dad-in-law) how to crochet. He made afghans for his grandchildren.

Viewing a favorite blog some months ago, I came across a beautifully knitted scarf with long fringe tassels. Wrapped around her neck and back to the front, the scarf hung to her knees. I loved it. So...during my last Fall visit with my parents I lovingly asked mom to knit one for me as a Christmas gift.

At home for the Christmas holidays my mom and I talked about the scarf. My mom tried her very best to knit the scarf for me but because she has Macular Degeneration it was very hard for her to see to knit. The next best thing was a one-on-one refresher instruction session. (It's been ages since I knitted.)

I took what mom had already knitted and began to knit on the scarf. Something awesome happened...my fingers began automatically to work as if I had never laid the needles down in my lifetime. After 20 or more rows, I thought it was too wide so I ripped out the rows to begin all over. Mom made sure that I cast on and got started the right way. Into my tenth row or so, it felt good in my hands, and I knew a narrower scarf was what I wanted. The rows appeared more rapidly now.

Ever so honored to be able to share in creating a loved piece with my mom. I love you mom.
